Essa banda aqui, apesar de não fazer parte do classic rock, merece meu respeito pelo som e pela marca que deixou na minha vida por volta dos 13 ou 14 anos. Muito antes de existir um esboço do Shrek eu ouvi essa música do Smash Mouth num clipe na TV. Pra minha sorte o clipe tinha legendas em português e eu, mesmo sem muita análise crítica desenvolvida, consegui entender um pouco dessa poesia misteriosa e engraçada. Segue a letra:

Como eu disse, eu ouvi essa música com uns 13 anos e quem, nessa idade, não ia curtir esse som? Desde a primeira palavra cantada você já se sente mais vivo e cheio de energia. O estilo de cantar meio Rap do Smash Mouth em algumas músicas é único e aqui, acompanhado do baixo e o arranjo de fundo, te traz boas sensações. Quando entra a guitarra no refrão, junto com a acelerada na voz e nos backings, pronto... Você só quer ser jovem pra sempre, ser um "Grande Astro" e - como eu bem me lembro no clipe - sair pelas ruas sendo quase um herói da vizinhança. Imagino que a intenção deles foi criar essa idéia mesmo, veja só o refrão: "Ei, você é um grande astro, entre no jogo, vá jogar! Ei, você é um astro do rock, faça seu show, recebá seu pagamento". E aqui entra uma voz de fundo com efeitos como se fosse uma gravação que diz uma frase que me intrigou à primeira-escutada: "E tudo o que reluz é ouro..." pra então Steve Harwell finalizar com "Somente estrelas cadentes quebram o molde". Sério, esse é um dos refrões mais inspiradores de se ouvir. Agora voltando naquela frase sintetizada: "tudo o que reluz é ouro". É engraçado pensar agora, mas desde aquela época eu concordo com o que entendi. E gostei do que entendi. Não ouvi isso e pensei em como o cara era um tolo por achar que tudo era ouro, e como ele podia quebrar a cara no mundo. Ouvi isso e pensei em como ele era determinado e em como ele sabia aproveitar as oportunidades. Afinal, ouça o solinho ótimo e os mixes do Smash e não se esqueça: você é o grande astro. Você é o personagem principal da sua vida. Seja o herói, seja o artilheiro, seja o astro do rock, faça seu show. Não deixe nenhuma oportunidade passar. Nenhuma. Pois tudo o que reluz é ouro. Mesmo que não seja ouro, você não se arrependerá depois de não ter tentado. "Só estrelas cadentes quebram o molde". Não seja uma estrela parada, quebre o molde ;)
